On top of what others have stated about AI, diplomacy, combat, etc. To me the biggest reason Civ IV is the best is that it had the best mods the series has seen, such as Ryes, Rise and fall of the Roman Empire, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Fall from Heaven, etc. The modding was far and away the best.

Is Civ 6 the best civilization game or do you prefer playing older versions like Civ 5? I got introduced to Civilization when the announcement came out that the development team started work on Civ 7. So, I've only played Civ 6 and I'm addicted. But I'm curious what others think about the older versions of the game. Normal because on slower speed everything involving build times feels too slow but on faster speed, everything involving unit movements, which aren't sped up, feels too slow by comparison. Also on faster speeds, the AI won't take turn 1 delegation for whatever reason, which makes diplomacy kinda annoying. truthful32.
